The Children and Autism Foundation is an n.g.o. which has been active for 12 years in the field of Generalised Developmental Disorders. Founded in ’98 by two parents of a person with autism who wanted to make up for the almost total absence of specialised services in their region, the Foundation presently has Centres spread over the Friuli Venezia Giulia and Emilia Romagna regions – where it is working officially and/or with accreditation with local agencies – and also operates a diagnostic service which is aimed at families from all over Italy.
With more than 400 clinical files, it has observed and continues to observe a wide-range of cases of people with Generalised Developmental Disorders.
Its distinctive feature consists in having created not one single service, but rather a network of services which are able to take care of people with autism in a global and longitudinal manner. All the Centres which make up the network have the ISO 9001:2008 Quality Certificate and all the services offered are in line with the points of reference and recommendations of the European Autism Association Good Practice Manual and the Guidelines issued by SINPIA (the Italian Society of Infant and Adolescent Neuropsychiatry).
Working officially with various Universities and Schools of Specialisation as sites for work experience, the Foundation has observed the implementation of Services for autism in different parts of Italy, it supplies training courses for Health Centres and other agencies and periodically delivers courses which are recognised as valid in terms of Ongoing Training in Medicine (ECM).
